INSS extends pay period for unexperienced sickness allowance

The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) extended the period of payment of sickness benefit without skill, as an advance for workers who fell ill during the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, the maximum period to receive the benefit without undergoing examination was 30 days. Now, the term has been extended to 2 months.

According to the decision, the R $ 1,045 in advance must be paid to the worker during the period defined in the medical certificate, up to the limit of 60 days. The measure is valid for any illness confirmed by a valid certificate.

The decision was published in the Official Gazette on Monday 24. The new rule for the payment of sickness benefits was established due to the impossibility of carrying out medical examinations, since the INSS agencies will remain closed until September 14. .

The text defines the rules relating to the advance payment of a minimum salary for the sickness benefit, such as the term of the request for the granting of the benefit and what must be stated in the medical certificate for it to be valid and guarantee assistance to the insured.

The sickness benefit of R $ 1,045 will be paid to workers who have requested the benefit presented until October 31, 2020. The economic effects of the measure will be guaranteed until December 31 and may not exceed this period.

How to apply for sickness benefits according to the new regulations?

To apply for the benefit for early sickness without expertise, the insured must present a valid medical certificate, in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • The document must be legible and without erasures;
  • Contain the signature of the doctor, his identification seal and registration number with the Regional Medical Council (CRM) or the Ministry of Health;
  • Contain information about the disease or its classification;
  • Report the estimated rest period.

The request must be made through the My INSS website or app. The medical certificate will be attached to the application and will subsequently be evaluated by an INSS expert. It is worth mentioning that the image must have quality to guarantee its legibility and consequently the approval of the aid. Currently, there are around 214 thousand orders pending release in Social Security.

The advance payment of the sickness benefit may be extended if the worker is still ill and makes the request before the end of the period.

If the worker is entitled to aid greater than R $ 1,045, the INSS will reimburse the difference in the future, after the reopening of the agencies, with expert reports to evaluate the case.
