The heat wave that has been spreading in the Federal District in recent weeks should intensify even more. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), this Thursday (8/10) and Friday (9/10) the maximum temperature can reach 40 ° C.

Inmet issued a red alert of great danger this Monday (10/5), so that the population has extra care with health in the coming days. The relative humidity of the air also varied between 40% and 10%. The maximum temperature was 34 ° C, the same forecast for this Tuesday (6/10).

This year is the fourth warmest in the ranking of the highest temperatures recorded in the Federal District. On Sunday (10/4), the Águas Emendadas weather station, in Planaltina, registered 36.7 ° C, the hottest day in 2020, so far.

The meteorologist Francisco de Assis Diniz, from Inmet, explains that the high temperatures are due to the possibility of rainfall for next weekend. “The heat will intensify due to the arrival of the rain from Saturday to Sunday,” he points out.

With high temperatures and air humidity below 15%, Brazilians must redouble their health care and, above all, hydrate themselves more. Here are some tips:

Important guidelines

  • Wash your hands frequently and avoid putting them in your mouth and nose. Do not forget to wear an individual protection mask, which is important during this period to prevent infection by the new coronavirus;
  • Try to keep your body always well hydrated. Therefore, drink plenty of water, even without being thirsty. For snacks or dessert, give preference to fruits rich in liquids, such as watermelon, melon and orange, for example. In particular, pay attention to the hydration of children, the elderly and the sick;
  • Apply saline solution to nose and eyes to avoid dryness;
  • Avoid doing physical exercises outdoors between 10 am and 5 pm;
  • Use products to hydrate the skin of your face and body, at least after showering and before going to bed;
  • Put on hats and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun;
  • Take advantage of the steam produced by the water during the bath to lubricate the nostrils
  • Put wet towels, water containers, or steamers in bedrooms;
  • Avoid crowds and prolonged stay indoors or with air conditioning, as dry mucous membranes increase the risk of respiratory tract infections;
  • Always keep the house clean and airy. Dry weather increases the concentration of mites, fungi and dust in furniture, curtains and carpets;
  • Try not to use brooms that collect dust wherever they go. Give preference to vacuum cleaners or damp cloths;
  • Turn ceiling fans on in “exhaust” mode, with the air directed upward. When going down, in the “ventilation” mode, they raise dust that mixes in the air;
    Do not burn garbage or cause burns through carelessness or inattention.
