The complaint of the National Dismissal Agenda, in front of entities that fight for the human rights of prisoners, shows prisoners with difficulty breathing in the prisons of Alagoas, a state governed by Renan Filho (MDB).

The respiratory failure was due to the overcrowding of the cells added to the lack of air circulation in the Cyridião Durval de Oliveira e Silva prison, in the capital Maceió.

The images show five prisoners dying on the ground. “We took him out for nursing care due to lack of circulating oxygen,” summarizes the person who records the images.

The men lie on the ground while health professionals tend to them. They beg for help. “Little air, many trapped within the same closed environment, breathing, and the consequence could not be otherwise”, he describes.

The complaint occurs during the Covid-19 pandemic, a disease that affects the respiratory system of people and with high contamination in a group of people.

According to data from Depen (National Penitentiary Department), no prisoner died as a victim of Covid-19 in Alagoas. There are 44 confirmed contaminations and 13 suspected cases, with 44 people recovered. Official data are provided by Seris (Secretary of State for Re-socialization and Social Inclusion).

Ponte questioned the secretariat about the complaint of the Agenda and awaits a position.
