The Secretary of Mobility and Transport of the city of São Paulo, Edson Caram, said today that health professionals will be able to circulate without restrictions on the blocked roads starting today as a way to restrict the movement of vehicles and increase the rate of isolation in the middle of the quarantine. to combat the new coronavirus.
Today the blockade involved four lanes, at peak hours (7 am to 9 am), in the central direction, but one of the lanes remained free to circulate. Tomorrow, city inspectors should begin to effectively stop the cars. According to the secretary, the idea is to create discomfort to discourage those who do not need to leave home.
“We do not want to create congestion at all, we want to show the population the following: if you leave the house unnecessarily or to work, you do not comply with the decree, you will experience discomfort,” said the secretary, in an interview with Bom Dia São Paulo, from Globe TV.
However, he noted that health professionals, as well as other service providers considered essential, will not be subject to restrictions. Caram explained that the doctors are already registered with the city council for the exemption if it is rotated.
“This registry will migrate to the area of the bus corridor. In the case of nurses, I will ask the regional council to list all those that I am going to register so that they can also circulate in the corridor. The idea is that these people do not even get to receive a fine, “he explained.
With respect to other health professionals, the secretary said that it will be up to hospitals to send the records to the CET (Compañía de Engenharia e Traffic) or DSV (Department of Road System Operation).
Caram said the city will assess what the flow on these roads will be in the coming days in the coming days and did not rule out taking other measures, if necessary. “If tomorrow the demand continues exactly as it does today, the trend is for more streets to be closed in the city (…) If in a week you notice that there was no effective adherence to the action, other measures will surely be taken “, said.
