During a rally to reopen Arizona’s trade in the United States, nurses from the Valley ICU in Phoenix caught the eye. They went there to “represent those who are too ill to speak.” One of the most iconic photos of the protest is Lauren Leander. She and other colleagues were silent at the “Patriot Day Rally” on Capitol Hill, where nearly 1,000 people gathered to ask Governor Doug Ducey to reopen the state and allow people to return to work.

In the photo, Lauren is with her arms crossed, facing attacks, screaming and questions from various protesters at the event. “The noise was deafening. But we represent a voice for our patients, immunocompromised people and Covid-19 patients who would be fighting with us if they could ask people to follow the rules of staying home,” he said in an interview with ABC15. “It doesn’t matter if you believe in the virus or not. I will take care of you one way or another. It was sad to see people giving insults,” he said. “But I am proud, because it is not just me. It is me, my doctors and all the health professionals who would be there with me if we had time to gather a larger group,” he added.

At the rally, people argued that the economy has suffered enough. The governor’s order to stay home is valid until April 30, but it is unclear what the state will do starting May 1.
