At least two people died after being dragged during a puff of water this Saturday afternoon (2) between São José da Barra and Capitólio (MG). A third person who was also dragged away is still wanted by the Fire Department. Six other people were stranded at the scene.

According to the first information from the Fire Department, three people were stranded after the rapids on the mainland, three in the middle of the water course and another three were dragged in the place called “muddy”, in the Canyons.

Two people have already been located in the well, but there is still no information on their health status. The military also reported that one of the victims was found to have a fractured lower limb. The Arcanjo helicopter and the Piumhi (MG) platoon are in response to the fact.

The head of water refers to a rapid and sudden rise in the level of a river, lake or waterfall due to rain in previous or upper reaches of the route.

The phenomenon is different from that of a waterspout, which resembles a tornado, but is less intense and occurs on liquid surfaces, such as the sea or river.
