The government is studying putting the entire state in the red phase of the São Paulo Plan on December 25, 26 and 27 and January 1, 2 and 3 to try to contain the advance of Covid-19 cases. The final decision will be made at a meeting of the Contingency Center with the secretaries, this Tuesday morning, at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes. With the measure, only essential companies (such as bakeries, markets and pharmacies) will be able to operate on those days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Bars and restaurants, for example, will not be able to open their doors.
According to Estadão, it is already defined, and it will be announced on Tuesday, that the Presidente Prudente region will return to the red phase tomorrow, the most restrictive, due to the progress of cases and the lack of ICU beds. Only today nine more cases were confirmed in the city of Presidente Prudente, there are still 73 people hospitalized and a total of 182 deaths. It will also be announced that during the month of January there will be a “lock” that will prevent the regions from going to the green phase, which is more lenient in isolation measures. Furthermore, the state government points out that mayors can be more restrictive, depending on the local situation and following the decisions of the Supreme Court.
The decision shows the concern of the Health area with the progress of the records. Between March and June, state restrictions only increased, until the easing began. On August 21, the State celebrated the fact that it did not have any red area in the 645 municipalities of São Paulo. But starting in September, there was another change in the landscape. Behind the scenes, the more political wing, since last month, has feared expanding restrictions. The Health area and the Contingency Center, for their part, advocate the resumption of the vetoes, in an attempt to change the upward trend in deaths and registrations.
The state of São Paulo registered 45,136 deaths and 1,388,043 cases of the new coronavirus, with 1,222,776 people recovered. Officially, the ICU bed occupancy rates are 66.9% in Greater São Paulo and 61.8% in the State. The number of hospitalized patients is 10,856, with 6,146 in the ward and 4,710 in intensive care units. Another 549 deaths were reported in the country, reaching a total of 187,322 deaths in the pandemic, according to data from the press consortium. The moving average of deaths is 769, which is equivalent to September 18.
Coast
The measures to support coastal municipalities should also be announced this Tuesday. As Estadão showed on Saturday, the municipalities asked the state government for logistical assistance to avoid crowds and discourage tourists from going round and round. “The proposal of the mayors is to create sanitary barriers in access to cities and the closure of the border on the 31st,” said Marco Vinholi, secretary of Regional Development of the São Paulo government. It is planned to measure the temperature of the visitors at the entrance of the city, but not to require proof of ownership in the region or covid test with negative result.
Cities like Guarujá and Santos usually receive hundreds of thousands of tourists at this time. According to Vinholi, the prerogative to organize the barriers will be the prefectures, with the support of the State. They are the ones who must measure reflections on traffic, which is usually congested in the region during the holidays. The mayors of the north coast, in turn, asked the governor for help to strengthen care at the General Hospital of Caraguatatuba, which is a benchmark in the region. In Ilhabela, a field hospital was installed to receive patients without covid and free hospital beds.
This Monday, the Ministry of Public Security launched Operation Summer + Insurance 2020/2021, which will have the reinforcement of 2,938 military police in 16 municipalities on the south and north coast. “In addition to protecting people by increasing the presence of the police and rescue and rescue actions, typical of firefighters, as it does every year, the Military Police will continue its eminently humanitarian action, guiding people in relation to the measures prevention of coronavirus ”, officially declared Colonel Fernando Alencar Medeiros, commander-in-chief of the Military Police.
