The field hospital built by Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) to provide care during the new coronavirus pandemic will be dismantled this week without ever working. The announcement was made at a press conference on Thursday morning (10) by the Secretary General of State, Mateus Simões, when answering the last question of the interview.
“Since last month, there has been a discussion about when would be the moment when we could dismantle [do hospital de campanha]. We were expecting hospital occupancy safety rates in the Metropolitan Region, the numbers are stable in the last two weeks and therefore this week [o governo] begins to dismantle the physical structure [do hospital de campanha]”said the secretary.
According to him, the structure of the space will be absorbed by the state hospital network: “All beds and equipment will be absorbed by the health services for the elderly in the state. Then there will be no loss of anything that is there. The structure of the walls will be dismantled and the entire medical and hospital structure that is there will be absorbed by the Fhemig system and by the state public hospitals, ”said the secretary.
In four months, the field hospital installed in Expominas, in Belo Horizonte, cost the government of Minas Gerais around R $ 2 million, according to information made available by the Court of Accounts of the State of Minas Gerais (TCE-MG). Even with an average expenditure of R $ 500 thousand per month o R $ 15 thousand per day, the space has not received, until now, no patient.
According to the TCE, the money spent on the field hospital comes from “funds received for damages derived from socio-environmental disasters”, within the budget of the Military Police, which is in charge of managing the space.
In comparison, with this amount you could buy 8 thousand RT-PCR heads, considering the average value of R $ 250 per unit. This is the most suitable test for diagnosing Covid-19.
The amount would also pay 800 daily from an intensive care bed, which is around 2,500 reais per day. OR buy 40 respirators for the price that the state bought, of about R $ 50 thousand.
Ready – and stopped – since April
The structure of the field hospital, which has 740 infirmary and 28 stabilization beds, is ready since April 29 (Look the following video). On July 13, close to the estimated date for the peak of coronavirus contagion in Minas Gerais, Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) announced the start of hospital operations, with only 4% capacity.
Minas opens part of the Campaign Hospital in Expominas
An edict was even issued to select a social organization that would manage the provisional space, from the moment it began to receive patients. The government too open vacancies for professionals different areas of health. More than a thousand people expressed interest.
Almost two months later, the hospital I did not get to receive anyone. The explanation lies in the condition imposed by the government, of receiving only patients with Covid-19 at the request of the two hospitals of the Fundação Hospitalar de Minas Gerais (Fhemig) network, in the discharge process. But, as neither of the two hospitals requested beds, Expominas remained closed.
In mid-August, the 200 professionals who were hired to work in the unit were relocated without prior notice, for hospitals of the Minas Gerais State Hospital Foundation (Fhemig). And the state offered the space to the mayor of BH to receive the vulnerable population. The capital’s executive declined the offer.
“The state must take the initiative and offer the same service that they are providing to Belo Horizonte to other cities. There are other cities in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte that have people in vulnerable situations, who would need shelter, “said the Municipal Secretary of Health. , Jackson Machado, at that time.
HE G1 It’s in TV Globo asked the Zema government for a position on the cost of the structure, but did not receive a refund until the latest update of this report.
