After the confirmation of the first case of the new strain of the covid-19 virus discovered in the United Kingdom, Italy was another country to detect the presence of the potentially most transmissible strain of the virus.

Between yesterday and today, cases of the new strain have also been identified in France, Spain, Sweden and Japan. There is no evidence that the new strain of the virus causes a more severe version of covid-19, a disease caused by the coronavirus.

Japan today announced a temporary ban on the entry of non-resident foreigners into the country after detecting cases of the new variant of the coronavirus. Yesterday the Asian country reported its first cases of passengers arriving from the United Kingdom.

This Saturday (26), Italian health authorities announced that six people tested positive for the new strain of covid-19 after arriving in the country in recent days from London, raising the number of cases in the country to more than 10 .

France confirmed one case of the new variant of the virus, while Spain announced four infected. Sweden also reported a case involving a traveler from Great Britain who became ill and tested positive in the country.

Authorities in France and Spain reported that the cases identified in the two countries are related to people who came from the United Kingdom in recent days.

Other countries

Denmark, Australia and the Netherlands also reported having cases of the new variant of the virus.

South Africa has detected a new strain of the virus similar to that found in the UK, which may be linked to an increase in infections in the country. The variant found in South Africa appears to be different from the one originating in the UK.
