Beto, as he was known, was killed outside a Carrefour supermarket on November 19. Gaspar Silva, one of the men who assaulted him, said that he thought he was “pretending” when he no longer noticed the reaction of the victim who was immobilized.

Like Gaspar Silva, security guard Magno Braz, 30, and market surveillance agent Adriana Alves Dutra, 51, are in custody.

According to the extract from Gaspar Silva’s testimony, “after immobilizing João Alberto, he stopped fighting, he was afraid to release him, since he was a strong person and could attack him again. When he realized that João Alberto had stopped reacting and that, looking at his face, his eyes were open, he thought he was pretending and that, at any moment, he could react again ”.

Later, an employee of the security company Vektor checked the vital signs and said that Beto was still breathing. But a customer approached the victim and noted that he had died.

“When he realized that João Alberto had lost consciousness, believing that he had fainted, he asked to have his vital signs checked again, which was done by a man who confirmed that they were no longer detected,” Gaspar Silva told police .

The former prime minister said he was “very nervous” after learning that the client had passed away and asked Adriana about rescuing the SAMU (Mobile Emergency Service), she said help was on the way.

His testimony was given last week and lasted about four hours. This Friday (4), Gaspar Silva was expelled from the Military Brigade for having committed a serious transgression.

The suspect told police that he started working at the market to supplement his income and that this was his first day. In the testimony, the former prime minister said that “he was astonished” by Beto’s punch and that he acted to try to immobilize him, that “he did not want to hurt”, nor “did he intend to cause death.” He denied having heard Beto say that he could not breathe, as well as having put his knees on the victim’s back, although this detail was seen in the video of the event.
