Infectious diseases doctor David Uip will leave the chair of the Emergency Contingency Committee for Covid-19 of the São Paulo state government. Instead, the president of the Butantan Institute, Dimas Covas, takes over.
According to the governor, João Doria (PSDB), Uip “excused himself for a few days from his condition” as coordinator of the committee.
Uip, who already had Covid-19 and recovered, asked the governor, João Doria (PSDB), to leave for health reasons. You are exhausted and stressed due to the accumulation of functions and work during the pandemic.
Uip is also a doctor and works at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo.
See the full letter in which Uip says he is sick and asks to be removed from the office:
“To the Governor of the State of São Paulo, João Doria.
Last Wednesday, May 6, I felt uncomfortable, with cardiac and clinical changes. After the medical evaluation, I started a battery of tests for diagnostic clarification.
Today I feel better, but, for medical advice, I will need to be away from my activities in the Coronavirus Contingency Center of the State of São Paulo for a few days.
It saddens me that, in this difficult time of crisis, of a very serious pandemic, which has caused so many deaths in our State and has caused great suffering among Brazilians in São Paulo who have lost family and dear friends, as they were unable to be physically present.
However, I am fully convinced that São Paulo is on the right track. And it’s saving lives.
The collaboration of my 15 colleagues at the Contingency Center, made up of doctors, scientists, virologists, teachers and researchers, has been fantastic.
The union of the efforts of this group of volunteers has unequivocally contributed to define strategies both to face the epidemic and to help the population in the public health network.
I thank Governor João Doria and the Secretaries of State and Lieutenant Governor Rodrigo García for all the support and support they have given us.
I am temporarily away and waiting to be recovered, to resume my contribution to the Coronavirus Contingency Center, the São Paulo State Health Committee.
Thank you very much and see you soon.
