After more than a week admitted to a Belo Horizonte (MG) hospital by Covid-19, cardiologist José Goulart de Souza Júnior, who lives and works in Unaí (MG), is preparing to return home. Tests show the cure, and a CT scan shows that the lung is already functioning normally. It should be discharged this Friday (23).

“The population has to be aware that it is a serious disease, there is no scientific consensus on how Covid-19 will behave. This disease is highly infectious and sneaks in. When it is less noticeable, the state of health has already become serious ” “

After having worked in the Unified Health System for 30 years and accustomed to treating a wide variety of diseases that affect the population, it is emphatic to say that “he never experienced anything similar” with the new coronavirus. José Goulart graduated in Medicine in 1984 from BH, where he also specialized. “The choice was based on vocation, I never imagined embracing another profession,” he says.

“All health professionals are aware that they are at risk because they are exposed to the disease, regardless of age and risk factors. We have seen young doctors who, sadly, have died. I will leave here refreshed and ready to contribute my work. ”

The doctor says that he initially had a high fever. Then she felt a slight dyspnea and cough. He chose to go to the capital of Minas Gerais because he has professional colleagues who work at BH in the areas of infectious diseases and pneumology. Forty people, including family members, health professionals, and patients, who had contact with the doctor who performed the Covid-19 test, were negative.

“Obviously I was scared. But at no time did I think that the worst could happen, I always maintained my optimism and followed all the guidelines of the professionals during the treatment. ”

José Goulart says he has no suspicion of how he could have been infected. Before his test was positive for the new coronavirus, there was only one confirmed, from a patient who had returned from Rio de Janeiro. When the symptoms presented, the doctor had not moved to other places for 40 days.

“It is time to reflect, so that people look at themselves. Often, in the rush of everyday life, we don’t pay enough attention to our family and friends. The disease made me want to be better in every way, ”defines the cardiologist, who says that he greatly missed the company of his wife and two daughters.
