A fire struck the wing of the Covid-19 exclusive Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa, in the Center of Ribeirão Preto (SP), this Wednesday morning (30). No one was injured.
In a statement, the hospital said a short circuit was identified around 9:45 a.m. in the gas strip that sits above patients’ beds.
The block between Bernardino de Campos, Rui Barbosa and Tibiriçá streets was closed to the work of the Fire Department.
As the fire was in the Covid-19 wing, the firefighters and police officers who responded to the incident had to undergo a chemical disinfection process as soon as they left the unit.

According to the Fire Lieutenant, Frank Fernando Andrade, all the units for measuring breathing air, oxygen and the electrical part of the ICU structure were placed on the gas rule.
“The only material that could have caused the fire would be that, but we will let the expert give real confirmation of the facts,” he explains.
Also according to the lieutenant, five patients and ten health professionals were in the environment and were transferred to other areas of the hospital.
“They were all evacuated by the brigade team. It is up to us to ensure the safety of the area and provide ventilation so that no one gets intoxicated with the smoke. Everyone is fine,” he says.
The place affected by the fire was ventilated. The team and patients are expected to return to the environment this morning.
