The case of the 4-year-old boy Henry Borel, who died on March 8, in Rio de Janeiro, is still being investigated by the Police, who are seeking to know the circumstances of the child’s death.

After the boy arrived at the hospital already dead, as the medical team testified this week, Henry’s mother and stepfather claimed they found him lying in his room. However, the forensics indicated that the death was due to internal bleeding and liver laceration caused by a forceful action, therefore with signs of violence.

Faced with so many doubts, the case gained repercussion and a long investigation, which collected testimonies throughout this week, culminating in the execution of search and seizure warrants. See what is known so far:

Day of death

Henry had spent the weekend with his father, the engineer Leniel Borel, who left the child in the condominium where the mother resides at 7 pm on the 7th (Sunday). Security cameras captured the boy’s arrival.

According to the investigations, at dawn on the 8th, the doctor and councilor Dr. Jairinho (Solidariedade), Henry’s stepfather, and his girlfriend and the child’s mother, Monique Medeiros, took the child to the Barra D’Or Hospital, in Barra da Tijuca, where they reported that the boy had difficulty breathing. The couple then called the boy’s father to report what happened.

Leniel then he went to the health unit and found the doctors trying to revive the boy. Guided by hospital professionals, the boy’s father opened an incident on 16 PD to understand what happened to his son. The child’s death occurred on the 8th.

Experience and research

Henry’s autopsy report indicated signs of violence and the cause of death was internal bleeding and a liver laceration caused by forceful action.

In the document, the expert found multiple bruises on the abdomen and upper limbs; hemorrhagic infiltration on the front, side and back of the head; swelling in the brain; large amount of blood in the abdomen; kidney contusion on the right; trauma with pulmonary contusion; liver laceration (in the liver); and retroperitoneal hemorrhage.

The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the death of the child and, on the 17th, Jairinho and Monique Medeiros made their first statement at the 16th PD (Barra da Tijuca). At the time, the woman said she believed her son woke up, stood on the bed, and staggered or tripped over the back of the chair, causing him to fall to the floor.

The couple reported that they were in the living room watching television and the boy was lying on his mother’s bed, where he used to sleep. According to the woman, at one point she and her boyfriend headed to the guest room so that the noise would not disturb Henry.

Still in testimony, Monique reported that Jairinho was sleeping and that, around 3:30 am, he got up and woke up the parliamentarian. At that moment, the councilor went to the bathroom and, upon returning to the bedroom, the mother found her son on the floor already unconscious.

Monique called out to her boyfriend. On the way to the hospital, the mother performed a mouth-to-mouth procedure, recommended by the doctor, but the child did not respond. When asked why the counselor, as a doctor, did not help revive the boy, he claimed that the last time he had a heart massage was on a wrist during college.

Couple interview

In an interview last Sunday with “Record Spectacular” on TV Record, Jairinho said that he did what he could to save the child who, according to him, was found lying in one of the rooms of the couple’s residence. “I am absolutely sure, before God, that that murder was not,” he said. Monique reinforced the statement, stating that she found her son unconscious on the ground.

Messages obtained by “Fantástico” from TV Globo showed the conversation between Henry’s parents on Sunday (7), the day the child would be returned to his mother. In them, both imply that Henry would not want to return to his stepfather’s apartment, and his mother showed concern.

New testimonials

On Monday (22), the police decided that they would listen to the medical team that treated Henry, the employee of Monique and Jairinho and the expert responsible for the autopsy report of the child. The testimonies can help to clarify some differences found between what was said to the unit doctors and the testimony given by the couple, in addition to trying to understand the possible causes of the injuries found on the child’s body.

An ex-girlfriend of Jairinho said in testimony on Tuesday (23) that she and her daughter were beaten by the politician about eight years ago, when the two were in a relationship. The witness – who did not disclose his name – detailed, for about six hours, the violence suffered by both. According to her, the attacks were not reported for fear of reprisals.

On the same day that the ex-girlfriend testified, the three pediatricians on the team who treated the boy stated that the boy arrived dead at the health unit. The medical team also stated that, in attendance, Henry had bodily injuries, which were also mentioned in the autopsy reports.

On Wednesday (24), Rosângela Medeiros, Monique’s mother, told the police that she was very close to her grandson that the boy used to sleep at their house in Bangu three or four times a week. Furthermore, it was common for grandparents to spend a few nights at the couple’s residence in Barra da Tijuca.

Maid contradicts Monique

Rosângela, Jairinho and Monique’s maid, was also heard and contradicted the version given by the child’s mother. The worker said she was informed of Henry’s death the day he went to work. When the police heard her last week, Monique reported that the employee cleaned the apartment, which hurt the experience, as she was not aware of what had happened and had even given her time off for lunch.

To the police, Dr. Jairinho told that when he returned home at around 10 am on the 8th, he saw the maid talking about the boy’s death with his girlfriend and an attendant.

More revealed messages

Rede Globo had access to the text message that Henry’s father received from Jairinho’s ex-girlfriend, who denounced the parliamentary’s attacks on his daughter. In the conversation, the witness says that he regrets the death of the minor and says that he was negligent at the time of the attacks on her and her daughter.

“I spent the worst days of my life with him [Jairinho]. Today I can’t look my daughter in the eye because of everything she did and I didn’t see it. I blame myself every day of my life ”, he concluded.

Police conduct further investigations and Cremerj enters the case

Police yesterday opened an investigation parallel to Henry’s case. To the agents of the Police Station for Victims of Children and Adolescents, a 13-year-old adolescent reported having been attacked when she was 4 years old by Jairinho, who at that time was dating the minor’s mother.

In the testimony, which lasted about 5 hours, the girl, whose name was not revealed, in the presence of a psychologist, said that she was frequently assaulted by Jairinho 8 years ago. Although the case was registered with the DCAV, the Barra da Tijuca police station, which is investigating Henry’s death, is also analyzing the content of the hearing.

According to the newspaper O Globo, the girl told the agents that she told her maternal grandmother that her head was sunk under the water of a pool. The mother of the now teenager said that at one point her daughter did not want to be with her when she was with Jairinho and asked to sleep at her grandmother’s house.

In addition, the Cremerj (Rio Regional Council of Medicine) is also investigating the fact that Jairinho did not provide the boy with first aid and asked Monique to give the boy mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Cremerj said he “is following the facts and will take all appropriate measures.”
