A 54-year-old man was arrested in late September in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, on suspicion of raping and getting a 12-year-old girl pregnant. According to the Civil Police, the man fled with the girl to a rural community in the interior of Linhares and lived with her. The information is from the newspaper A Gazeta.
Also according to the police, the first complaints against the man were made in July. After the searches, the girl was found and returned to the family. However, the man managed to escape again and was only found in late September. The suspect was charged with rape of vulnerable persons and sent to Xuri prison in Vila Velha.
According to the Health Department of the city where the girl lives, the girl is being assisted by the Council of Guardians and a team with a doctor and a psychologist. Without reporting the weeks of gestation, the agency stressed that the pregnancy will not be interrupted because it is in an advanced stage. The girl will be accompanied so that the baby can be born healthy.
