The number of health professionals in Espírito Santo who were contaminated with the new coronavirus reached 1,083, according to the most recent update by Panel Covid-19, from the State Department of Health (Sesa). One of these professionals died and 376 have already been cured.

The number of infected health professionals corresponds to approximately a third of the total number of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Espírito Santo. According to the Espírito Santo Health Workers Union (Sindsaúde-ES), the elimination of these professionals has created an overload of work for those who continue to serve the population.

“People also get sick because of that. You are no longer able to do your job and you have the necessary rest to recover. People are doing shift after shift, in very stressful situations, and this is really influencing health of our workers “, affirmed the social worker and director of communication of Sindsaúde, Maria Rita de Boni.

To alleviate the public network, Sesa must hire professionals who have graduated early and are licensed by the federal government. In total, 35 medical students from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) have already graduated.

“Initially, we can use these professionals, through our hiring, which is always open, to replace professionals who, perhaps, may become ill. Also the expansion of the offer of health services, due to the pandemic. Obviously that, as they are professionals who are leaving the gym at the moment, they will work in spaces not so far in front of the coronavirus, but to satisfy those other demands that, at this moment, are more reserved, are more difficult to access, because the entire team is focused on attending the crown, “said Sesa Undersecretary for Health Surveillance, Luiz Carlos Reblin.

For the Sindsaúde-ES board, the hiring of recently graduated professionals during the pandemic would not be necessary if the image of the public health network were completed.

“If we had a more effective workforce, maybe it wouldn’t have to be that much. Espírito Santo has a good number of professionals, we could have more, but maybe if the State had its effective staff, it wouldn’t need to be in this madness”, emphasized.

Among the more than 1,000 health professionals in Espírito Santo who were infected with the new coronavirus is nursing technician Fábio Samora da Vitória, who has already recovered from the disease. He says he returned to his routine after two difficult weeks of isolation at home in the Oriente neighborhood in Cariacica.

“At first, I was very scared, because my mother is older, my father too. I am a very familiar person and my fear was contaminating them or having contaminated them. As my things were separated, covered, bathing suits, I managed to beat the covid without contaminating nobody, “he celebrated.

According to the nursing technician, the symptoms appeared on the last day 13. Fábio underwent tests and the result was positive for covid-19. He believes that he contracted the disease at work or on the bus trip to the Children’s Hospital of Vitória, one of the reference units in the treatment of infected people in the state and where the technician has worked for six years.

“I had a type of sinus attack, in which I smelled a little, my throat became infected. The doctor came in with antibiotics and, thank God, he improved. On the seventh day it was better. And I had pain in my body and I was feverish” , said.

Fábio also said that the concern of transmitting the coronavirus to family members was one of the reasons that led him to start receiving psychological counseling.

“It seems that our immunity is shaken when we are sad. But I received calls, messages. That helped a lot, because sometimes the person moves away from you.”

Hotels

The State Government is also studying the possibility of offering vacancies in contracted hotels. They would, in principle, be for professionals working in the referral hospitals for covid-19 in Greater Vitória.

“In order to provide greater protection to professionals and also to their families, the possibility is offered to those professionals who wish to stay in accommodation contracted by the State government, which are hotels here in the region, which instead of quitting his jobs and continuing to his residence, he can go to the hotel, “Reblin said.

However, for the union, this measure should have already been adopted at the beginning of the spread of the new coronavirus in Espírito Santo, and not during the period considered as a peak and after the contamination of more than a thousand professionals.

“Do you need people to get sick for action to be taken? You must first realize that you were wrong to fix it? This is what is happening now. So I think it took too long. How long did it take for people to understand they have to stay at home, “stressed María Rita.
