The lawyer Deltan Dallagnol decided to leave the command of the Lava-Jato working group in Curitiba. The announcement was made this Tuesday by the Paraná team.

Despite a difficult time for the operation, Dallagnol’s decision would have a personal problem in the background. The family would have recently discovered a health problem for their daughter, although it has not yet been diagnosed.

“After 6 years at the head of Lava Jato in Paraná, state prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol retires from the task force to dedicate himself to the health problems of his family,” the statement said.

The text also defends the prosecutor at the head of the working group. “Throughout this period, as coordinator of the work, Deltan carried out his functions with rectitude, daring, care and self-denial, gathering uncommon technical and personal qualities. The leadership he exercised was fundamental for all the results that Operation Lava achieved. -Jato, and the values he inspired will certainly continue to guide the work of the other members of the task force, who continue on the case. “

Dallagnol will be replaced by the State Attorney in Paraná Alessandro José Fernandes de Oliveira. The note says that he must assume the functions of the former coordinator, “beginning to securitize, through an exchange, the office to which the Lava Jato investigations were distributed in Paraná.”

The text says that the new coordinator has “recognized experience in fighting organized crime” and was the “oldest member of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Paraná to express interest and availability to coordinate the work in the office to which he is linked the case”.

It has been established that there will be a transition period of 15 days. “The members of the Lava-Jato working group in Paraná thank Deltan Dallagnol for the immense contribution she has made to the fight against corruption and are in solidarity with her personal moment, while expressing their support and confidence in Alessandro Oliveira. The task will continue in the same way as in recent years “, says the text.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, has until September 10 to decide whether to renew the working group that operates in Paraná.

Later, by confirming his departure on Twitter, Dallagnol assures that this is not a farewell and that “he will continue to fight corruption as a prosecutor and as a citizen.”

“Yes, it is true that I left the Lava-Jato coordination. It’s a tough decision, but the right thing to do for my family. I will continue to fight corruption as a prosecutor and as a citizen. Lava-Jato has a lot to do and needs your and my support, “he wrote on the social network.

In a video of just over three minutes, Dallagnol also talks about the health problem of his daughter, aged 1 year and 10 months, which would have been her motivation to leave the position.

According to the prosecutor, there is still no diagnosis, but the girl began to show signs of “regression in her development,” such as stopping saying the words she had been speaking and no longer looking at whoever was calling her.

“After years of intense dedication to Lava-Jato, I think now is the time to dedicate myself, in a special way, to my family. I will continue to work as a prosecutor, but those extra hours I put in on nights, weekends and holidays now I will have to focus on my family. ”

Dallagnol also asked people to continue supporting Lava-Jato’s work, saying that “the decisions that are being and will be made” in Brasilia may affect the group’s work.

Regarding the new coordinator of the group, Alessandro de Oliveira, Dallagnol affirmed that he is a “competent” lawyer, who has served as a “collaborator of Lava Jato”.

Alessandro works in the operational working group of the PGR, subordinate to Aras and commanded by the Deputy Attorney General of Justice Lindôra Araújo.

In recent weeks, Dallagnol has fought a battle in the courts to stay in office and get the National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP) to postpone the analysis of the processes that could lead to his removal from command of the task force.

After a decision by Minister Celso de Mello, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the process was withdrawn from the collegiate agenda.
