“Guardiões do Crivella”, a group suspected of monitoring and preventing reports on the public health crisis in Rio at the doors of hospitals, has been stampeded by its members since last night, when TV Globo revealed its existence. Fingerprints of members of the WhatsApp group obtained by Twitter show the output of several of the servers in charge of the town hall in sequence, between yesterday night and today dawn.
The images show that Marcos Paulo de Oliveira Luciano, known as ML and alleged coordinator of the scheme, is warning people not to leave. “Guys, it’s not that they leave the group, there was never anything wrong here,” he says in a message (see image below). The police today carried out a search and seizure warrant against ML. This afternoon, he was testifying before the police.
Full of people in Crivella’s office with “special position”, ML has a gross salary of R $ 10,513.00.
The presumed illegality prompted the MP-RJ (Rio de Janeiro Public Ministry) to launch an investigation today against the mayor of Rio, Marcelo Crivella (Republicans). For the same reason, the state deputy Renata Souza (PSOL) presented a request for impeachment against Crivella at the City Hall.
According to the TV Globo report, city officials were distributed to health units in the capital of Rio de Janeiro to curb critical reports from the municipal administration. The group had rigid hours and charges for intimidating journalists.
Some of the employees of these groups even earned net salaries, paid by taxpayers, that exceed R $ 10,000. Marcelo Crivella himself was part of the group.
MP starts investigation
On the occasion of the complaint, the MP-RJ responded to the Twitter that today he instituted a “criminal preparatory procedure to investigate the possible practice of crimes that Mayor Marcelo Crivella would have committed.” According to the agency, Crivella will be evaluated for possible crimes of criminal association and the practice of criminal conduct, the latter in relation to his responsibilities as mayor.
Councilor Teresa Bergher (Citizenship) also confirmed on social media that she will submit a request to establish a CPI (Parliamentary Investigation Commission) on the scheme in the Chamber.
Teresa said she was “stumped” by the revelation of the plan. “Hiring people with public money to prevent citizens from having access to information? It is disgusting,” said the councilor.
The City Council speaks of ‘manipulation’
In a note released today, the City of Rio said the news was “manipulation.” Yesterday, however, the municipal government did not deny the existence of the WhatsApp group.
“These lies put people’s health at risk, because many could stop looking for the unit because they believed the fake news,” reads an excerpt from the note.
The defense counsel for Marcos Paulo de Oliveira Luciano was not found by the report.
