A 46-year-old man diagnosed with the new coronavirus fled this afternoon from the São Domingos Hospital, in Catanduva (SP), 390 km from São Paulo, where he was admitted. The patient then went into a supermarket to hide and was immobilized by local officials, who called the Military Police.

After leaving the hospital through the window wearing only his underwear, the patient ran down the street and entered a supermarket that is a few meters from the hospital. It was contained by officials who called the PM and Samu (Mobile Emergency Service).
According to the prime minister, the man was nervous and needed to calm down. They placed him on a stretcher and took him back to the hospital, where he remains in the infirmary.
Isolated case
In a note, the São Domingos hospital explained that the patient’s escape was an isolated case.

Supermarket closed for cleaning
The supermarket where the patient was admitted was closed for hygiene and then reopened to the public.
