A video recorded the day before yesterday at a restaurant in the city of Gramado (RS) shows the waiters of the establishment imitating a burial ceremony in Ghana. Images of the African country, marked by the festive way caskets are loaded, became popular in times of the new coronavirus pandemic.
In the video made in Rio Grande do Sul, a trio of employees of Divino Gastronomia & Bar enter the room frequented by the clients of the establishment to the sound of “Astronomy”, by the Russian artist Tony Igy. The song became popular as a soundtrack to the videos that turned Ghana’s funeral ceremonies into a meme.
Even in the gaucho recording, the waiters, wearing masks, carry buckets of sparkling wine as they dance and spin cloths. The audience presents dances and applause.
Filming took place on Saturday (9). Today, the establishment released a note signed by director Valdemir Ecker to apologize for the incident, according to the text, caused at the request of a customer table, at a time when the manager had to leave the site.
“The management of Divino Gastronomia & Bar reaches out to the public to regret and repudiate the episode that occurred last Saturday (9), when a video showed the scene of the waiters taking bottles of sparkling wine, with the musical track simulating the loading of a Coffin. We did not agree with this totally irrational attitude at the time we live, in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, “says the text.
“Unfortunately, this sad episode only happened due to an operational failure, at the exact moment that the manager went out to buy a missing product. Taking advantage of the moment, one of the table members went to the DJ and asked for the track of referred music, in addition to having ordered the choreography of the waiters “.
“For this reason, we have come to apologize to our clients and to all of society for this failure, and to say that we are taking all measures to prevent episodes of this nature from happening again in Divino,” concludes the official note.
According to data compiled by the Ministry of Health, Rio Grande do Sul represented 2,576 cases of the new coronavirus as of 7 pm today, with 105 deaths caused by covid-19.
