Two doctors who contracted the new coronavirus in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the global pandemic, had dark skin after treatment for the disease, according to state broadcaster CCTV. The skin on the rest of the body showed no change in tone.

Yi Fan and Hu Weifeng, both 42, were diagnosed with coronavirus on January 18. The two worked at Wuhan Central Hospital and were transferred to Wuhan Lung Hospital after their condition worsened.

The change in facial skin tone was attributed to a hormonal imbalance caused by the virus. For the doctor Li Shusheng, the suspicion is that the change in the skin is the effect of the use of a medicine at the beginning of treatment.

According to Li Shusheng, doctors’ usual skin color should return when their liver function improves. He emphasized that one of the side effects of the drug used to treat doctors is darkening of the skin color. (Information from Istoé)
