RIO – The interim governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro announced, on the morning of this Tuesday, the launch of a new Single Vaccination Calendar against Covid-19 for the entire state. The new schedule will be posted later on Tuesday. Among the main novelties is the inclusion of three categories to vaccination priorities: health professionals not yet immunized, public security agents and education workers. They join the elderly from the second half of April.

COVID-19: Rio’s hospitals are already beginning to have a shortage of supplies for treatment, report professionals

According to Castro, the calendar will not necessarily be followed by all municipalities, but it will serve as a kind of goal for everyone to get their bearings and walk together.

– This is a day we were waiting to announce. It was a request from the mayors, especially in the last meeting we had in Niterói. They asked that the state have a unified calendar. They pointed out this importance, because, as each municipality has its complexity, its equipment, some are more structured and others less, so we notice a great migration from one to another in search of vaccines – explained the governor, who continued:

– They asked the state government to make this decree creating a single calendar. We are creating today, and its intention is not to create an obligation, but to be a beacon so that this can be discussed with the municipalities.

Health professionals vaccinated before April 10

The governor announced that the 324,000 health professionals in the state who have not yet been vaccinated will now be covered because they are not included in the priorities. The objective, he explained, is that this specialized hand can join, both in the vaccination campaign, which must face a growing demand with advancing ages, as well as the possibility of opening new beds. The state government guarantees that by April 10, all these workers will already be immunized.

– The decree speaks mainly of three main categories, which are essential and very important services. It is based on what we have heard from the federal government, mayors, and society. So, the first of them are the 324 thousand health professionals who have not yet been vaccinated. We will give priority to these workers. They are often not found in hospitals, but in clinics and other health-related activities. They are very important, because, as we know, we will now have a large increase in vaccines and this expansion needs more qualified professionals, who can also help open more beds.

Security agents: immunization from April 12

The governor then spoke about adding security officers to the calendar. According to Castro, the initiative, which is also a suggestion of the federal government, aims to prevent these professionals from serving as “vectors” in the spread of the virus. The vaccination of these professionals begins on April 12 and must be carried out in battalions of the Military Police throughout the state.

FlexibilityPaes says he intends to relax the restrictions on April 5 and plans to vaccinate the teachers shortly after the elders.

– The second group are Public Security professionals. I had a great meeting now with all the forces, the union, the deputies who also defend the agenda. We understand that these forces, in addition to not having stopped at any time, also generate great concern because they end up serving as a vector of transmission. I already spoke with Colonel Figueredo, and we are going to open the battalions, we will vaccinate the Military Police, Civil Police, Degase agents, municipal guards, Federal Police, Federal Highway Police, Fire Department, Municipal Civil Defense, Justice Officers, and the one that best fits.

The security agents who may be vaccinated as of April 12 are:

  • Military police
  • Civil police
  • Federal police
  • Officials of the Federal Highway Police
  • Fire brigade
  • Municipal Civil Defense
  • Degassing agents
  • Municipal guards
  • Justice officers

A little earlier, already on Wednesday (31), the vaccination of the firefighters who work in the health area will begin, such as the workers of Samu, for example. Vaccination must take place in corporate neighborhoods.

Education professionals still no date on the schedule

Regarding the third group to enter the schedule, education professionals, Cláudio Castro said that the idea is to give peace of mind to parents, students and workers, so that schools can return to work as soon as possible.

– I always say that the school should be the last to close and the first to open. But we need schools that are absolutely safe: that parents, professionals and students have the peace of mind of going there. That parents take their children, having the peace of mind, when they return home with them, of knowing that these educators will already be duly immunized. And then, either in the capital or in Baixada Fluminense, all cities will be included in this vaccination schedule – he added.

Despite this, there is still no defined schedule for the vaccination of education professionals. This is because, according to the state government, the elaboration of this schedule still depends on an agreement between the municipalities. The new groups incorporated into the calendar do not influence the vaccination of the elderly, who, according to the decree, continue with the forecast of advancing until April 14 with the immunization of people up to 65 years of age.

– This is a form of collaboration between the state and the municipality. Here there is absolutely no idea that the vaccine is mine, the mayor, the president, the deputy. The vaccine belongs to the population. So this assistance that the state will provide is a grant so that we can focus on forces that are mostly state and federal. We will begin this vaccination from this second fortnight – he concluded.
