Carrefour has already had to pay compensation for pain and suffering and is responding to lawsuits in São Paulo for the truculence of the employees of Vector Patrimonial, the company responsible for the security of the hypermarket chain in the country.
On December 29 of last year, a Vector security guard was accused of assaulting and assaulting a 12 and 13-year-old boy in the store at Rua Ribeiro Lacerda, 940, in Bosque da Saúde, south of São Paulo.
The boys had gone to a hypermarket pet store to buy dog food. When they were both on the parking ramp, they were approached by a security guard.
According to the teenagers’ version, the security guard offended them both with bad words and grabbed them by the neck. The minors were taken to the elevator. The official ordered them to leave and threatened to beat them if they returned.
The teens returned scared, crying and ashamed to return home and reported the episode to their parents. The families filed a complaint in the 16th Police District (Vila Clementino), where a police report was registered.
The children’s parents filed a lawsuit for moral damages against Carrefour and Vector Segurança Patrimonial. In April this year, the hypermarket chain decided to make a friendly agreement with the family of one of the teenagers.
Carrefour paid the family of the 13-year-old boy an indemnity of R $ 7,000. It also disbursed an additional R $ 700 for attorneys’ fees.
Fernanda Souza de Almeida, 30, the boy’s mother, told the Twitter who, out of fear, no longer lets his son go to the hypermarket. “I also go there only as a last resort. This Vector company should be closed. The security guards are not prepared for anything,” he complained.
The lawsuit filed by the other boy’s family is nearing completion. The boy’s father, commercial representative Sérgio Artur Musso, 59, expects to receive compensation of R $ 15,000 to R $ 20,000.
According to Sérgio, his son and his little friend were traumatized by the attacks and offenses. “The boys came home scared and crying. They are good children, students and educated. They never did anything wrong,” he said. Twitter.
Sérgio’s indignation increased on Friday (20), when he saw on television the images of João Alberto Silveira Freitas, 40, beaten to death in a Carrefour unit in Porto Alegre, by security guards from the same company that attacked. your son.
“Carrefour needs to better select the outsourced security company. What they did in Porto Alegre is absurd. They are unsuspecting professionals,” he said.
Sérgio said that the security guard who assaulted his son was released from the Carrefour do Bosque da Saúde unit the same day. “I just don’t know if he was fired or transferred to another store,” he added.
In Sorocaba, the businessman Waldemir de Jesus Nunes Costa, 61, also decided to seek the Civil Police to file charges against Vector Patrimonial and Carrefour.
On May 9 of this year, Waldemir went to the Jardim Sônia Maria hypermarket unit to bet at a lottery shop. He got in line normally. But since he was older, an employee asked him to go ahead.
Vector’s security guard, a military policeman identified as Eduardo, didn’t like it and started yelling at Waldemir, offending him. The businessman, who has health problems, felt embarrassed in the midst of about 100 people, fell ill and almost fainted.
“This horrendous event happened on a Saturday, the eve of Mother’s Day. On Monday I had to go to the doctor. I was also emotionally shocked. My lawsuit is ongoing in court, but nothing will pay and will erase the shame, shame and fear of having happened. “
The images of the beatings in Porto Alegre also shocked Waldemir. “It was a horror. And the worst thing is that both there and here with me, the assaults involved military policemen. I too could have died at the hands of these scoundrels. I am very sorry for what they did to João Alberto. It is absurd. It is unforgivable” Waldemir added.
Carrefour decides to break contract
After the case of João Alberto’s death came to light, Carrefour said it had decided to break the contract with the security company and said it would close the store. In a statement, the market stated that “it will adopt the appropriate measures to hold those involved in this criminal act responsible.”
“The employee who was in charge of the store at the time of the incident will be fired. Regarding the victim, the store will be closed. We will communicate with the family of Mr. João Alberto to provide the necessary support,” the company said in a statement.
Carrefour, still in a note, said it “deeply regrets the case” and said it launched “a rigorous internal investigation.”
“For us, any type of violence and intolerance is not permissible, and we do not accept that situations like these happen. We are deeply shocked by everything that happened and we will follow the evolution of the case, offering all the support to the local authorities.”
The column contacted Carrefour’s press office to comment on the compensation, but has yet to receive a refund.
