The Butantan Institute, in the São Paulo capital, should receive on Wednesday (10) a new batch of supplies, from China, for the production of the CoronaVac vaccine, against covid-19. As reported today (7) by the São Paulo state government, the cargo is at the Beijing airport ready for departure.

The batch has 5.6 thousand liters of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), produced in China by biopharmaceuticals Sinovac, Butantan’s partner in the development of the vaccine. The raw material will allow the production in São Paulo of more than 8.7 million doses of the immunizer, which will be allocated to the National Immunization Plan (PNI).

On Wednesday, 5,400 liters of IFA from the same supplier were received in São Paulo, enough to produce 8.6 million doses of the Coronavac vaccine. Together, the loads will allow the manufacture of 17.3 million doses of immunizers, which will begin to be delivered to the Ministry of Health from the end of this month. The institute foresees that the production of vaccines against covid-19 will reach up to 600 thousand daily doses with the two shipments of raw material.

In January, according to the São Paulo government, Butantan delivered 8.7 million CoronaVac vaccines to the Ministry of Health, 6 million doses on 17, 900 thousand on 22 and 1.8 million on 29.
