RACE Butantan Institute Accelerates Coronavac Production (Credit: Playback)
OR Butantan Institute created its own vaccine against COVID-19 and will request authorization this Friday (26) at Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) for clinical trials with human beings. The information is from Folha.
The immunizer was named Butanvac and it is developed by the institute, which leads an international consortium of which it is the main producer, with 85% of the total capacity to supply the vaccine.
Also according to Folha, the director of Butantan, Dimas Covas, said it is possible to finish all vaccine trials and have 40 million doses ready by the end of the year. “It is a second generation vaccine against Covid-19, there may be a faster analysis,” Covas said.
Anvisa’s request for authorization refers to phases 1 and 2 of the tests, in which the safety and the ability to promote an immune response are evaluated with 1,800 volunteers. In phase 3, with up to 9 thousand people, its effectiveness is stipulated.
Through Twitter, the Governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), recorded a video with Dimas Covas announcing a press conference this Friday, at 8 in the morning, where they must make the official announcement of Butanvac.
