The director of the Butantan Institute, Dimas Covas, announced that he will deliver 1.2 million doses of the CoronaVac vaccine to the Ministry of Health today, developed in partnership with Sinovac to combat covid-19. In an interview with TV Globo, Dimas also said that the new plan provides for the availability of a total of 3.9 million doses by the end of February.
The institute’s initial estimate was that 3.4 million doses would be available in the period, with daily shipments of 426,000 doses. According to Dimas Covas, currently the production capacity of Butantan is 600 thousand daily doses.
“Today we will deliver 1.2 million doses of the vaccine to the Ministry of Health, and we will not stop. Until February 28, 3.9 million doses will be delivered. More raw material is coming and in April we will reach 46 million doses. our mission, ”he said.
Still according to Dimas Covas, the expectation is that production capacity will increase in April. “Today we produce 600 thousand doses per day, with 400 employees in 3 work shifts. We are working to reach the capacity of 1 million doses per day and in April up to 2 million ”.
IFA arrives next week
Director Butantan confirmed in the interview the arrival of another 8,200 liters of IFA (active pharmaceutical ingredient) next week. “It should arrive on March 2 (Renderá) At least 15 million doses,” said Dimas.
