Two brothers died in an accident in Rio dos Cedros, in the Itajaí Valley, in Santa Catarina, on Saturday (12). It was the first time that Maria Eduarda Schwirkowski, 14, and Felipe Schwirkowski Neto, 4, had been together since the start of the pandemic. Information is from G1.
In the report, Mara Greftt, who is the aunt of the two half brothers, says that since March, due to the pandemic, the father did not spend the weekend with the two children together.
“Since the pandemic began, the girl had no longer been taken. It always picks up every 15 days, as ordered by the court. And now it was the first weekend that passed during the pandemic. I was so happy, ”says the aunt.
He says that his father, his current wife, who is Felipe’s mother, and the two brothers had a picnic hours before the accident.
The car in which the brothers were with their father and Felipe’s mother fell into the lake from a dam in Rio dos Cedros. According to the Fire Department, the couple managed to get out, but the brothers stayed in the car, which was submerged.
According to Maria Júlia Reinert, a rescue worker who worked on the incident, when firefighters arrived at the scene, the man was cut off due to the rescue attempt. He even broke the rear window of the vehicle to try to get the children out.
“As soon as I got the boy out of the water, the father came up to me and started hugging his son […] He was hugging me and the boy in the middle of us. I couldn’t help but feel moved by the situation. When I pulled the girl out of the water, the same thing happened, ”said the rescuer.
Firefighters from Rio dos Cedros, Timbó and also from the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu) tried to revive the brothers, but they did not resist.
The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate the accident. According to deputy Rafael Werling, the parents have not yet been heard and there are no details of how the accident occurred.
“That day I couldn’t listen to the parents. Especially because it is a very painful thing for parents, that is why we have to wait a few days to start listening to them in that sense ”, said the delegate.
