President Jair Bolsonaro said today that the Covid-19 pandemic remains a “big problem” in the country. Without naming names, the CEO also said that the “mask falls” on those who used the new coronavirus politically.

“We have setbacks, we have problems, because we still have the great problem of the pandemic, among others,” he said in an act of the federal government in Sertânia (PE) related to the works of transposition of the São Francisco river. “Those who wanted to do politics on the virus issue, their mask falls off and people understand that they really had courage, discernment and a lot of concern when dealing with an issue like this (pandemic),” he said.

Throughout the health crisis, the president’s statements were marked by clashes with governors and mayors who adopted restrictive measures to prevent the spread of the disease. The main target of the criticism was the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB). Today, Bolsonaro has again criticized the measures to close the trade, citing their impact on employment.

“This policy of ‘stay at home, close business’, with an immediate consequence of destroying millions of jobs, must be changed,” he declared. “I always said that we had two problems there, the virus and unemployment, we should treat them responsibly and simultaneously.”

Yesterday, the country reached the mark of more than 10 million people infected with covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. The brand was not commented on by Bolsonaro during his weekly live broadcast, neither yesterday nor today. The number of deaths from the disease exceeds 243 thousand.
