“As Paulo Guedes told me, the issue of adjustments in the economy, tomorrow we sanction the project with a veto and it is resolved. And it has everything to resolve, despite the closings that are there,” said the president.
The statement was made about Bolsonaro’s return to the president’s official residence, after participating in a “revelation tea” for his son, Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP). Images of the event were published on the family’s social networks.
Last week, the president had already informed that he would veto the extension of the project of aid to the states that opens the possibility of salary adjustments for various categories of officials, even in the midst of the pandemic.
The president says that he will veto the extension of aid to the states and municipalities that allows readjustment
The initial version of the project foresaw that the Union’s financial aid to the states and municipalities had, among its counterparts, the freezing of the salaries of the officials. During the process in Congress, MPs included text categories that could be readjusted. Shortly after approval, Guedes announced that he was going to Ask for a veto on these passages.
“What do we decide? I follow Paulo Guedes’ playbook on the economy. And it is not blind, no. He is aware and rightly so. And if he thinks that it should be vetoed, this device will be done. We must save the economy because the economy is life, “Bolsonaro said Saturday.
Guedes defended on Thursday (7) that the civil service should not have a salary increase until December 2021. For the minister, the measure will help the country through the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
“I suggest to the President of the Republic that he leave, to allow this civil service contribution to be made, for the good of all of us,” said Guedes.
According to the text, the Union will transfer R $ 60 billion directly to the states and municipalities, divided into four monthly installments. The resources will be divided as follows:
- R $ 50 billion: compensation for the drop in income (R $ 30 billion for the states and the DF; R $ 20 billion for the municipalities);
- R $ 10 billion: health and social assistance actions (R $ 7 billion for the states and the DF; R $ 3 billion for the municipalities).
The project also suspends the debts of the states and municipalities with the Federal Government, including the social security debts paid in installments by the municipalities and which would expire this year. This point can generate an impact of R $ 60 billion in the Union.
More ‘essential’ activities
On Sunday Bolsonaro also told his followers that he should expand the list of professions considered essential and that they were allowed to work abroad even during the pandemic.
“Tomorrow I should put some more essential professions there. I opened it up, since they don’t want to open it, we will open it there,” he said.
On Thursday, he decreed that construction and industrial activities are also essential amid the new coronavirus pandemic. The decrees are an attempt to loosen the social isolation policies adopted by governors and mayors, of which Bolsonaro disagrees.
Until this Sunday, the list was already made up of more than 50 branches and professional activities.
