The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB), said today that he has made progress in negotiations with the Butantan Institute for the purchase of doses of CoronaVac, a vaccine against covid-19 that has been developed by the institute together with the Sinovac laboratory.
“We will go to São Paulo to sign a protocol of intentions of the government of Pará with the Butantan Institute so that we can point out. If the federal government guarantees the vaccine, okay. If the federal government’s solution is delayed, the state government will be taking the initiative, together with Butantan so that we can ensure, at the time of the availability of a vaccine that is regulated by Anvisa, so that the state can acquire and guarantee access to the vaccine for our population, ”said the governor.
Tomorrow, at 11 in the morning, the governors meet with the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, to learn the guidelines of the immunization plan and decide whether or not to adhere to it, or to carry out local plans.
CoronaVac has not yet been approved by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), which said there are still steps to be validated. According to the entity, the inspection report, the document required for approval, should be ready between December 30, 2020 and January 11, 2021.
Barbalho explained that the state immunization plan in Pará is in an advanced stage and should be announced in the next few days, but beforehand, respecting the authority of the Ministry of Health, he will attend the meeting tomorrow to learn about the national plan.
“We will be listening and understanding what the federal government’s strategy is in this context. Plan A: Ministry of Health, with a national immunization plan. Plan B: state government with a state immunization plan, acquiring a vaccine from the Butantan Institute,” he explained Barbalho.
This afternoon, during the presentation of the São Paulo State Immunization Plan, the state governor, João Doria (PSDB), said that he plans to start the vaccination on January 25, 2021, in case of Corvac approval by Anvisa , and that it plans to move four million doses to other states.
Doria also said that eight states requested the vaccine from the Butantan Institute, but did not reveal which ones, as the deals are not yet officially closed. But he guaranteed that there will be collaboration between those involved in terms of logistics.
