This week the City Council of Belo Horizonte began a survey on the return of face-to-face activities with the parents and guardians of the students
If the planning of the Belo Horizonte City Council (PBH) is finalized, if they return to classes in person in March of this year, only 12 students will be allowed to be dispersed in each school room for a maximum of four hours. The information was released by the Education Commission of the Municipality of Belo Horizonte, through councilor Macaé Evaristo (PT), last Thursday (17), when an inspection was carried out in a school of the municipal system of the city. More than 105,000 children would return to the school environment in the Executive’s plans.
PBH started a survey on the return to classes this week. The municipal executive sent a questionnaire to more than 80,000 families about a possible return to activities in early childhood schools and associated nurseries. Due to the pandemic, BH schools have been closed for almost a year.
In the form, families must inform, until this Sunday (21), the age group of the child, if they would send him to school in a possible return and if they consider important distance activities in early childhood education. According to the PBH, the questionnaire aims to measure whether a rotation between classes is necessary.
Poll: Are you for or against going back to face-to-face classes?
Last month, City Secretary for Education Angela Dalben announced that municipal schools can reopen their doors from March, starting with children ages 0-5. One of the criteria for the resumption would be the drop in the rate of contamination by the coronavirus. However, the incidence of cases is still almost 14 times higher than what is considered ideal for resuming face-to-face activities.
In press conferences, the municipal secretary of Health, Jackson Machado, reinforced that the figure considered satisfactory to allow the reopening of schools is 20 cases for each group of 100,000 inhabitants. Currently, this rate is 276.7 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
The return also depends on the progress of the vaccination process in the city and the permission of the health team that is part of the Committee for Coping with the Disease. For this resumption, PBH is considering dividing the comeback into three phases, starting with early childhood education. The next groups would be primary school, with children from 6 to 8 years old and, finally, students from 9 to 14 years old.
