Fiocruz, through the Institute of Immunobiological Technology (Bio-Manguinhos), received this Friday (2/4) another 225 liters of IFA (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient), equivalent to 5.3 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19. With this much more, production is guaranteed until May.
IFA is the main ingredient in the recipe. “He is the yeast that makes the cake grow. Without it, there would only be flour, sugar and coloring ”, metaphorizes Norberto Prestes, executive president of the Brazilian Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Each vaccine or drug has its IFA, which also depends on other substances to ingest and make the body react.
Fiocruz had already received IFA in recent days, equivalent to 23.5 million doses. In addition to the 11 million already produced and that are in the quality control process, Fiocruz guarantees the delivery of 35 million doses to the PNI (National Immunization Program).
So far, the Ministry of Health has received 8.1 million doses of the Fiocruz vaccine, with 4 million imported from India and 4.1 million produced as of this Friday (2/4).
As of March 31, according to the Institute for Immunobiological Biotechnology (Bio-Manguinhos), more than 2.8 million Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines had already been delivered to the PNI.
Three months ago, when it announced the first schedule of the agreement with the pharmaceutical company, Fiocruz mentioned the availability of 15 million doses in March.
By July 2021, the promise is to reach 100.4 million doses of the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine delivered to the Ministry of Health.
The delivery schedule agreed with the agency will follow the weekly delivery schedule and is subject to the distribution logistics defined by the portfolio, in addition to the quality control protocols.
