A Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) has published the resumption of tests with the Coronavac vaccine. Better this way. But it is clear that the matter is not closed. The medical admiral, or medical admiral?, Antonio Barra Torres, who chairs the agency, gave lax explanations to justify the suspension of the tests. The result of the scandal is not innocuous.
President Jair Bolsonaro, I have already pointed out here, committed a new crime of responsibility by celebrating Anvisa’s first decision and by lying about the alleged side effects of the vaccine. There is a political punishment for a president whose behavior hurts the decorum of the office: it is impeachment. But it takes two-thirds of Congress to address this solution. This number does not exist.
If the president is who he is, it cannot be tolerated that a state body, such as Anvisa -also endowed with Bolsonarism-, has a political role, which puts the health of the Brazilian people at risk.
If our Constitution were to the taste of some reactionaries who disguise themselves as liberals, health would not be guaranteed there as a citizen right and a duty of the State. For this reason alone, there are two ADPFs in the Supreme Court, with a report from Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, who accuse the government, albeit with different accents, of committing to vaccination.
Such actions, brought by opposition parties, gave Lewandowski the instrument to demand that Anvisa justify its stupid decision within 48 hours. As a justification, there was not and there is not, so Barra Torres did well to do the obvious: liberation. Especially since the minister could lift the ban through a court order.
Now comes the question: where is the Public Ministry of the Federation? It is necessary to open a civil investigation to investigate the circumstances of Anvisa’s absurd decision. And he clarifies once again: it is not foolish to suspend the test when one of the volunteers is the victim of a “serious adverse event”, but to do so without having the necessary information to know if there is a possibility that such event is related to the drug ; causing fanfare with a terrorist note and without warning the institute developing the vaccine in advance.
As has been a constant, the Public Ministry that collaborates with the TCU, in the person of the Deputy Attorney General Lucas Rocha Furtado, made a representation, demanding the investigation of the facts. In addition, the Joint Commission of Congress that accompanies the actions to combat Covid-19 only approved an invitation for Barra Torres to explain himself. Come if you want.
Invitation? This gentleman is obliged to explain himself.
