The MPF (Federal Public Ministry) and MPT (Public Ministry of Labor) recommended today that the 233 municipal health secretaries of Paraíba strictly respect the vaccination order against covid-19 established by the Ministry of Health.
The recommendation came a day after the mayor of Pombal, a city 370 km from João Pessoa, “skipped the line” for vaccination. Abmael de Sousa Lacerda, known as Dr. Verissinho (MDB), was the first to receive the vaccine in the city. Despite being a doctor, the mayor does not act as a healthcare professional on the front lines of the fight against covid-19.
The note published by MPF and MPT recalls that, at this time, the priority is to vaccinate health professionals on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus, in addition to indigenous people living in villages and the elderly and people with disabilities living in the host institutions. “The application of the vaccine to anyone outside of these criteria, at this time, is irregular and may lead to an investigation in the areas of administrative and criminal impropriety,” the agencies warn.
The MPF and MPT also asked the municipalities to feed the information systems of the Ministry of Health in real time, registering the names of the people who received the vaccines. The agencies also recommended that the official portals of the municipalities carry information on immunization, as a form of transparency.
The municipalities of Paraíba have 24 hours to respond whether or not they will follow the recommendations made.
