The announcement was made hours after the São Paulo government announced that it will request authorization from the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to start testing Butanvac.

“In my opinion, it has nothing to do with each other,” said the Minister of Science. “Coincidence, good for the country,” Pontes said, without mentioning Butantan or Butanvac.

In October last year, G1 told the story of 11 Brazilian projects that were already seeking the development of national vaccines. The initiatives of Butantan and the group mentioned by the Minister of Science have already been monitored and were also accompanied by initiatives of Fiocruz, UFMG and UFPR.

15 monitored protocols

Pontes affirmed that the federal government supported 15 research protocols for a new vaccine against Covid-19 and one of them, developed in the interior of São Paulo, is in a more advanced stage.

“Three of these vaccines advanced through pre-testing and are now entering the clinical testing phase. (…) One of these vaccines already has the protocol registered in Anvisa for clinical tests ”, said Pontes, who showed a paper card to accredit the request.

According to the minister, the candidate vaccine against Covid-19 that has already requested authorization for tests in volunteers is the one developed by companies in the sector in partnership with the Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP). ).

The name of the immunizer is Versamune®️-CoV-2FC and, according to the government, the research is coordinated by researcher Célio Lopes Silva, from FMRP-USP, in alliance with the Brazilian company Farmacore Biotecnologia and PDS Biotechnology Corporation.

“The results of non-clinical studies (toxicity and immunogenicity) obtained so far demonstrate quality and competitiveness to be a national and global success in the control of Covid-19,” the Ministry of Science reported in a note.

“The vaccine has demonstrated the ability to activate the entire immune system: humoral, cellular and innate immunity, induce immune memory and long-term protection,” added the federal government.
