Mother and daughter died the same day in Bragança Paulista (SP), a city about 90 km from São Paulo, both victims of the new coronavirus. Vivian Teixeira Bueno, 38, and her mother, Marilene Silva Teixeira, 62, had been hospitalized for more than a week.
The first to be admitted was the daughter, who was a teacher at a municipal school in Bragança Paulista and was transferred to the city’s Santa Casa on March 11, after presenting the first symptoms of covid-19.
His mother, a retired teacher, who had returned to teaching the state government in 2020, was diagnosed two days later. Marlene needed oxygen, but there was no vacancy in the ICU-covid bed, so she was admitted to a São Paulo hospital.
The two evolved rapidly in the framework of covid-19 and ended up not resisting the complications of the disease. Marilene was the first to die, early yesterday morning, and around 4 in the afternoon, it was Vivian’s turn to die as well.
At the time of her mother’s death, Vivian was still conscious and knew of Marilene’s delicate state of health, so her smartphone was taken from her so as not to read any news of the case. During the mother’s funeral the daughter had to be intubated, but she went into cardiac arrest and ended up dying.
So far, Bragança Paulista has had 9,425 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 215 deaths since the start of the pandemic. But the moving average of cases yesterday was the lowest in more than a month, registering 47 cases, the best rate since February 3, when it was 45.
