Symptoms appeared after lunch.

The lunch where the veterinarian ate the Arabian fish took place on February 18, at the home of one of her sisters, the businesswoman Flávia Andrade. Toward G1, Flávia said that she saw her sister feel a lot of muscle pain after consuming the fish.

Priscyla was treated in a first hospital, but the syndrome was not diagnosed. In a second hospital, she was admitted.

Days later, when she returned to the health unit to visit her sister, Flávia said she discovered that the symptoms were Haff Syndrome after speaking with a doctor. The professional, according to the businesswoman, commented on another patient who had developed the same symptoms as Priscyla after eating the Araba fish.

What is Haff syndrome?

The disease is caused by eating fish contaminated by a toxin capable of causing muscle necrosis, that is, muscle breakdown. Other symptoms of the disease are due to this condition. The syndrome is associated with the consumption of fish such as arabaiana, known as ox eye, and whiting. (see video above).

However, the way the animal is contaminated by the toxin that causes the disease is not a consensus among experts. Some infectologists say that the toxin is generated by poor packaging of the fish, but others claim that the toxin comes from the algae consumed by the animal.
