SAO PAULO (Reuters) – The Butantan Institute resumed on Tuesday the delivery of doses of CoronaVac, the vaccine against covid-19 from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, and intends to deliver 5.6 million doses of the immunizer to the folder on Friday of next week . said the institute linked to the São Paulo state government in a note.
The institute reported that Tuesday’s shipment includes 1.2 million doses and that, on Wednesday, another 900,000 doses of CoronaVac will be sent to the National Immunization Program (PNI) of the Ministry of Health.
“For February 25, 26 and 28, 600,000 daily doses are still scheduled,” the institute said in a statement. “In early March, the IB will make an additional 1.7 million vaccines available for immunization in the country.”
O Butantan delivered this third 9.8 thousand of doses from CoronaVac to PNI and, with the deliveries scheduled for this week and next, it will total 15.4 thousand of two deliveries to the national campaign for vaccination against Covid-19 next Friday .
The institute expects to arrive at the end of March with 27.1 million doses of CoronaVac, a vaccine that is filled at its facilities in São Paulo after receiving the active pharmaceutical ingredient (IFA) imported from China.
In April, depending on the arrival of more batches of IFA, Butantan should deliver 18.9 million additional doses to fulfill the first part of the contract with the ministry, which foresees the delivery of 46 million doses of the vaccine by April.
The portfolio exercised the option to buy another 54 million CoronaVac from Butantan, which expects to complete the delivery of this total by the end of August. In addition, the Ministry of Health sent a letter to Butantan expressing its interest in buying an additional 30 million doses of CoronaVac between October and December this year and the institute is analyzing how it will respond.
So far, vaccination against Covid-19 occurs with the CoronaVac doses delivered by Butantan to the PNI and with 2 million ready doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine with the University of Oxford imported by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in India.
This Tuesday, Fiocruz, an entity linked to the federal government, received a new batch of more than 2 million ready doses of the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, which, like CoronaVac, is applied in two doses.
