The São Paulo City Council announced today that a patient residing in the city was diagnosed with the variant of the coronavirus, known as the Manaus strain, without having traveled to the Amazon.

According to the municipal administration, the test result came out yesterday. In a statement, the City Council warns that there is a greater transmissibility of the variant and recommends the search for a health unit before any symptoms such as fever, cough or headache.

The case identified with the variant showed mild symptoms and did not require hospitalization. Since the end of January, the city has reserved ten isolated beds for the treatment of the new strain at the Dr. José Soares Hungary Municipal Hospital, in Pirituba, west of the capital.

COVISA (Coordination of Health Surveillance), in a note, indicates that those diagnosed with the new variant require the same care as covid-19.

In case of suspected contamination, it is necessary to conduct tests, isolate and also isolate people who have had recent or constant contact.
