The government of Amazonas announced on Saturday (13) that, due to the improvement in the rates that control the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the region, the capital will go from the purple phase, the most serious, to the red, less critical. The interior continues in the violet phase.
During the next seven days, in Manaus (AM), part of the restrictions on the movement of people and the operation of commerce will be relaxed. However, Governor Wilson Lima (PSC) stressed that the situation continues to be serious and “worrying”.
In the last 14 days, the moving average of deaths from covid-19 has fallen by 35% in the Amazon. That rate reached 140 deaths a day on January 21. Today, there are 83 deaths per day. The moving average of cases has decreased by 21% in the last fourteen days.
“We cannot lower our guard, because otherwise we may run the risk of losing everything we have achieved,” Wilson Lima said in a statement. “The effort that everyone has made to contain this pandemic … The positive results are already beginning to appear.”
On January 4, the Amazon had left the red phase and entered the purple phase, the most restrictive. Now, the movement is reversed.
With the red phase, the movement of people between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. is prohibited. However, merchants will be able to sell drinks in “drive thru” mode from 8 am to 3 pm. Emergency home works are allowed
Beauty services, such as hairdressing, beauty, and barbershops, can operate at home. Public transportation is allowed for health professionals and people who are in essential activities allowed by the decree.
Freight transportation continues to be free for fuel, food and hygiene, in addition to products related to health and public safety.
Wilson Lima said that he requested authorization from the Ministry of Health to vaccinate people between 18 and 49 years old who have chronic health problems.
Since the start of the pandemic, Covid-19 has killed 9,619 people in the Amazon, which has 290,000 cases. The state was attacked by a new variant of the coronavirus, which is spreading faster.
