In the third update in less than 15 days of the São Paulo Plan, tomorrow, at least three regions of the state of São Paulo will enter the red phase, Twitter. Pandemic rates worsened in Bauru, Franca and Presidente Prudente, who will join Marília in the regions that regressed after the end of the year holidays.

This part of the program is the most restrictive, in which only essential sectors are allowed to open. The announcement of the phase changes for the regions will be made at 12:45 pm, during an event at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in São Paulo.

The regions of Araraquara, Barretos and Campinas will return from the yellow phase to the orange phase, the second most restrictive.

There is still no definition on the Greater São Paulo region and the decision of whether it will be orange again will be made on Friday morning, before the announcement.

But there is a study for the entire state to remain in the red phase on weekends, to contain the expansion of the pandemic.

Based on the current metrics of the São Paulo Plan, the Greater São Paulo region, which is part of the capital, has orange phase indices, since it has 71.5% of the ICU beds occupied. The program method states that the index is considered orange when ICU beds exceed 70% occupancy.

Third reclassification

Tomorrow’s update will be the third under the direction of the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), in just 15 days, something unprecedented in the state since the start of the new coronavirus pandemic.

This is due to the fact that the pandemic worsened in the state of São Paulo, mainly due to the Christmas season. The state’s health secretary, Jean Gorinchteyn, even said that last week was the worst week of pandemics in the state so far.

Currently, São Paulo has 67% of its population in the yellow phase of the plan that coordinates the relaxation or tightening of restrictive measures. There are six regions, including Greater São Paulo, in the phase of least restrictions compared to orange and red.

After exceeding 50,000 deaths caused by covid-19 in the state, São Paulo continues to aggravate the pandemic and a constant increase in hospitalizations. Currently, the state has 70.8% of its ICU beds occupied, exactly the same rate of ICU occupations registered in Greater São Paulo.
