The Manaus City Council reported that 198 burials were carried out in the city’s cemeteries today, breaking the record for the fourth consecutive day. From Sunday (10) until yesterday, there were 144, 150 and 166 burials per day, respectively, all above the previous high (140), recorded on April 27, the peak of the first wave of coronavirus infections.

Of the 198 burials, 143 were carried out in spaces managed by Semulsp (Municipal Secretariat for Urban Cleaning) and 55, in private cemeteries. Most of the deaths (87) were caused by covid-19. Of the total, only three came from outside Manaus.

Another 26 people died at home, according to the city.

Manaus is one of the capitals most affected by the second wave of covid-19. With a population close to 2.2 million inhabitants, the capital of Amazonas has 91,461 confirmed cases of the disease since the start of the pandemic, in addition to 3,856 deaths, according to the latest data released by the city.

Manaus is “priority”

In the morning, the Minister of Health, General Eduardo Pazuello, said that Manaus is a priority in the fight against the coronavirus and that it is necessary to strengthen “early care.”

“Manaus is the national priority at the moment, it is being heard from the Minister of Health,” said Pazuello, who fulfilled an agenda in the capital of Amazonas. “There is no way to solve this situation if we do not prioritize early care, which is already the current mayor’s priority.”

We will vaccinate her in January and Manaus will also be the first to be vaccinated. It was clear? No one will receive the vaccine before Manaus. The vaccine will be distributed simultaneously in all states in terms of population proportion, and Manaus will also have that priority. “
Eduardo Pazuello, Minister of Health

However, after Pazuello’s speech, the Ministry of Health clarified that the vaccination will be simultaneous throughout the country and Manaus will not be the first city to vaccinate its population. In other words: the capital of Amazonas will receive neither before nor after the other municipalities, but at the same time.
