With the announced effectiveness of 78% for milder cases and 100% for severe cases, Coronavac, a vaccine against Covid-19 produced by the Butantan Institute in alliance with the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac, had the list of interested parties updated.
So far, 184 municipalities have directly sought the direction of the Butantan Institute to request the vaccine. They are municipalities outside the state of São Paulo that want to have a “plan B”, in case the vaccination plan of the Ministry of Health does not advance.
On Thursday (7), the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, stated, however, that the complete production of immunizers from Butantan will be directed to the National Immunization Plan.
The survey was conducted by the São Paulo Government Regional Development Secretariat with Butantan. The data was confirmed by Secretary Marco Vinholi.
The largest city on the list is the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The newly installed in Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (DEM), signed a cooperation agreement with the agency linked to the São Paulo government to have access to the vaccine, although he believes in a national calendar. Following the line of the Ministry of Health is Plan A de Paes.

The government contract with Butantan provides for 8.7 million doses in January
Of the 184 that contacted Butantan, 26 cities are in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Even the Health Ministry’s decision to buy 100 million doses of Coronavac did not discourage municipalities from seeking the vaccine on their own.
The Prefecture of Maricá, which has just over 160,000 inhabitants, asked Butantan for 440,000 doses and wants to maintain the agreement, even after the Ministry’s attack on the Chinese vaccine.
In a statement, the city says that “the pace of the pandemic does not keep pace with federal actions” and that “it hopes that exclusivity will not prevent it from fulfilling its commitment to immunize the city’s population as soon as possible “.
Other large capitals such as Curitiba and Belo Horizonte also demand the use of coronavac and signed a commitment to purchase the vaccine.
The Butantan board also received the request from 10 associations of municipalities in various states. In the accounts of the technical sector of the São Paulo organization, if all the cities that make up these groups are added, there would be more than a thousand municipalities with their sights set on the Chinese vaccine.
