Moderna issued a statement on Monday 4, in which it updates the projections for the manufacture of the vaccine against covid-19 this year. The American company says that its basic scenario is to produce 600 million vaccines for the current year; previously, it was estimated at 500 million. At the same time, Moderna says it will continue to invest and recruit in order to build capacity for “potentially 1 billion doses by 2021.”
The company projects that about 100 million doses of its novel coronavirus immunizer will be available in the US by the end of the first quarter of this year, with 200 million doses available in total by the end of the second quarter. She says that so far she has provided approximately 18 million doses of the vaccine to the United States government. The immunizer already received authorization for emergency use from the regulatory agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), on December 18. Additional doses were also shipped to Canada, the company recalls.
Using technology involving the virus’ messenger RNA, such as that from Pfizer, Moderna’s vaccine was more than 90% effective in clinical trials. Following the release of the statement, the company’s shares rose 2.66% in the pre-market in New York, shortly before 11:30 am (Brasilia time).
