New Year’s Eve in Camboriú has a crowd on the beach and a clandestine party

The traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks show on Balneario Camboriú beach, on the coast of Santa Catarina, was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. The places facing the sea were blocked by officials of the city council and the civil guard. Even so, there were a crowd of people at the turn of the year, which lasted until the beginning of this Friday (1).

The city also banned parties in city nightclubs. What did not happen. Records on social media showed that some establishments managed to circumvent this restriction. The images showed an agglomeration of people at these clandestine parties. And people who celebrated New Year’s Eve without wearing masks or the wrong way.

The Military Police had its strength reinforced to assist in the inspection and, if necessary, guide or disperse the people who were in groups crowded in the streets and on the shore. About 100 incidents were recorded, mainly due to disturbances in the peace.

Precautionary measures

According to the city council, the installation of tents in public spaces and the use of fireworks were prohibited between 6 p.m. on 12/31 and 6 a.m. on the first day. In addition to the use of sound equipment and hookahs on beaches, squares and parks.

The municipal health department installed a structure in Praça Almirante Tamandaré to provide low-complexity care to prevent people from going to the emergency room. In a more complex case, there were ambulances for his transfer.

Also according to the city council, on Thursday (31), Balneário Camboriú registered 47 new cases of the new coronavirus. Total: 12,784 confirmed cases.

Approximately 11,500 people have already recovered and 1,112 patients remain in treatment, 1,075 at home and 37 hospitalized. The city accounts for 146 deaths from the new coronavirus.
