Even without diffusion of efficacy – what happened postponed from December 23 to January 7 -, São Paulo already stores millions of units of Coronavac since November 19. On Monday morning (28), the state government received a new batch with more than 500 thousand doses of the vaccine, carried out in partnership between the Butantan Institute and the Chinese biopharmaceutical Sinovac Biotech. The imported batch from China consists of doses ready for application. And, next Wednesday the 30th, another shipment is expected to arrive, with 1.5 million units. That adds up to around 11 million doses on Brazilian soil this year alone.

“We reached the end of 2020 with approximately 11 million vaccines on national soil, which guarantees Butantan’s commitment to make the immunizing agent viable for the Brazilian population so that, as soon as it is registered by the National Health Surveillance Agency, it can begin vaccination, “he said. Dimas Covas, director of the Butantan Institute. Vaccination in São Paulo is expected start January 25. However, this does not guarantee immediate immunization of the population. In the first place, it is necessary to release the product by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), which needs to receive data from clinical tests in order to be able to analyze them to grant the registration or authorize emergency use.
