The president of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Luiz Fux, said that he had dismissed the secretary of Integrated Health Services of the Court, Marco Polo Dias Freitas, after the request made to Fiocruz (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation) to reserve 7,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to court officials.
The dismissal, anticipated by the newspaper O Globo, was confirmed by Fux to leaf. According to the president of the STF, the request to Fiocruz was made without his knowledge.
“It was a shock to me (when I found out about the application). It’s not like me to do that. It was a lack of conscience, an untimely request. We are in videoconference, it was not necessary. It was aggressive in terms of repercussions, ”said Fux.
On the 23rd, the president of the STF had defended the measure, in an interview with TV Justiça. On the occasion, he stressed the concern not to stop the fundamental institutions of the State, such as the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary.
Questioned by leaf, Fux said it did not defend the request, but only tried to “alleviate” the situation. “What they did was very bad. The administration of the court was very well evaluated. The repercussions were very negative, ”he said.
Marco Polo, who is a doctor and a judicial analyst, does not sign the letter sent to Fiocruz. The document was prepared by Edmundo Veras Dos Santos Filho, general director of the STF, on November 30.
In the request, Santos Filho says that the Secretariat of Integrated Health Services, occupied by Marco Polo, will be in charge of carrying out the vaccination campaign and, if the supply is possible, the agency will send a server to collect the vaccines in the Fiocruz facilities. .
“For more information on vaccination, I recommend the secretary of Integrated Health Services, Dr. Marco Polo Dias,” he said.
The STF argued that the action had two “main objectives”. One would be to immunize the largest possible number of domestic workers, who play “a fundamental role in the country and have among their authorities and collaborators a considerable number of people classified in risk groups.”
The other argument was that carrying out the court campaign would be a way to contribute to the country “at such a critical moment in our history.”
“It will help expedite the immunization process of the population and allow the assignment of public health teams to other people, thus collaborating with the National Immunization Policy,” he said.
The request, however, was denied by Fiocruz, which reported that the production is destined “entirely” for the Ministry of Health.
Through a note, Fiocruz stated that its objective is to guarantee the national production of immunizers, without any priority for any organism. The STJ (Superior Court of Justice) had made a similar request and also received a negative response.
