Fatal fire victim identified in São Gonçalo hospital

He was identified as Carlos dos Santos, a fatal victim of a fire occurred on the afternoon of Thursday (24), at the Intensive Care Center (CTI) – dedicated to patients with Covid-19 – of the São Gonçalo Hospital and Clinic, in the São Gonçalo Center. He was 62 years old and admitted to the health unit. According to the Fire Department, the victim was charred to death. Three other people were injured and rescued, but so far the hospital management has not released their health status.

The Fire Department was activated at 1:26 pm. Teams from Colubandê, Niterói, Headquarters, Directories of Supplies and Emergency Maintenance of the Corporation worked in the unit for approximately 6 hours until the flames were completely controlled. The windows of some windows on different floors have been broken. The military used ventilation equipment to remove the smoke that was inside the building.

During the fire, each aid was valid to remove patients and equipment. In addition to the fire brigade, firefighters and technical staff, the visitors also provided support in carrying equipment.

While the patients who were in the ICU were transferred to other sectors of the same hospital, some nervous people could be seen outside, seeing the rush on the spot.

“The employees asked us to abandon the visit, but did not give details. Only when we left did we understand what was going on, ”said tire repairman Carlos da Silva, 51, who was visiting a cousin.

Visitor Marcelo dos Santos found out about the fire in the press and rushed to the hospital to obtain information from his aunt, who entered the unit after suffering a stroke.

“It’s worrisome for everyone, no one expects it to happen to a loved one, when I found out about the fire I came running, but thank God nothing happened to him,” said Marcelo.

Wanted, the press office of the unit reported that the fire occurred at 1:09 p.m., in CTI 3, which has 10 beds, intended for the treatment of patients with Covid-19. The hospital fire brigade went to the scene and called the fire department. The place was isolated and the entire operation of the hospital unit was restored. At first, the cause of the fire was not identified, which will be evaluated and communicated by the competent technician.

According to the delegate Allan Duarte, from the Mutuá Police Station (72 DP) investigating the case, the complementary investigation will be carried out this Friday (25).
