An unidentified woman was swept away by the current that formed in a flood on Duque de Caxias street, in Baixada Fluminense, due to a storm that hit the city yesterday. The scene was recorded by neighbors on video, which circulates on social networks. His health status was not reported.
The rains caused a victim, identified as Fátima Marina Fernandes de Carvalho, 61 years old years. The city also said it was investigating the death of a 16-year-old teenager, also as a result of the rain. In total, 150 families are displaced. Three cars were also driven by the current.
The flood was formed with the help of the overflow of the Saracuruna River through the region. The Xerém district was the most affected area. The warning sirens went off.
“Civil defense teams are touring the city and following the recorded events,” the agency said.
In Duque de Caxias it rained 221.2 mm yesterday. In Xerém alone, it was 80mm, more than expected for the entire month.
