A 14-year-old boy had to swim for several hours to avoid drowning. The case took place in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo. In addition to the teenager, a friend of his also jumped into the water to save the boy and was floating for four hours, as determined by UOL.
Douglas entered the water near the Jucu River, the boy had left the house, in the afternoon, with his father and a group of friends to fish in the place. However, the current of water carried the 14-year-old teenager into the sea from Barra do Jucu beach.
“I walked in and the waves started to carry me. I thought I was going to die immediately. I was only thinking of my family. The sea was very rough and the water very cold. I had to swim to avoid dying, it was very difficult. I thought a lot about my family, ”the boy explained.
Regis Ferreira Alves, 33, immediately entered the water, seeing that his friend’s son could not return.
“We were close to each other for over an hour. He called for help, but we started to walk away and then I didn’t see him again. It was a lot of water. Everything was dark and cold and he no longer had any hope of being rescued. I no longer saw the beach or the boats. It was just me there. It was desperate. The sea was too rough, ”Regis said.
The couple swam and floated to avoid drowning, while Douglas’s father, George Inácio, fired the Fire Department. When the search began, the team did the work to try to find Douglas and his friend until such time as visibility allowed. However, the rescue team was unable to locate the two.
Only after four hours was Douglas washed away by a wave back to shore. It was already night when the boy regained consciousness in the sand and went to seek help.
“It was a scare. I woke up disoriented and started looking for help. I spoke with a resident who called my father. Nobody believed. I sank a few times. I was born again ”.
Regis, for his part, had to endure another hour at sea before a wave also carried him back to the sand. The construction assistant could not swim and had to float for hours until he saw the beach.
“I thought I was going to die. I can’t swim and I only thought about floating. When I fell back into the sand, I walked until I asked for help and made it home. Today I arrived at 1 in the morning and saw my family”, He says.
The boy lives with his parents and two brothers, while Regis has a wife and five children.
“We thank God. I lived again, we didn’t expect it, did we? I’m with my family and that’s what matters,” Regis noted, and Douglas added, “It was God.”
